With geothermal energy, water is the energy carrier: this water must remain pure. This can be done easily with nitrogen. During startup, nitrogen is injected at the top of the geothermal heat source or degassing tank. This prevents oxidation of the steel well pipes and fittings: no oxygen can reach them. In addition, nitrogen can be used to flush the pipes.
